Accross the country, students from coast to coast to coast are getting back to school! Forum is launching it's recruitment wave!
If you are a young student aged between 15-19 years old, or if you know a young leader in that age range tell them about Forum!

Forum is about one week that may very well change the rest of your life.  It’s about giving smart, engaged and opinionated young leaders a chance to recreate parliament for a week. It’s about getting inside—deep inside—Canadian politics and public affairs and seeing what running the country looks like up close. It’s about learning how to collaborate and share ideas, then turn them into real community action.

Beyond the history books, beyond the news channel and beyond classroom debates, there’s a lot to discuss. Your voice can make an impact now.  If you have ideas. If you think and read and talk about what’s going on in the world. If you have something to say—say it at Forum. Be a Voice.

Remembering Tony German

The Foundation recognizes with sadness the passing of Tony German.  His vision in helping to establish the Forum for Young Canadians program has brought thousands of  Canadian students the opportunity to understand and appreciate the democratic institutions of our Parliamentary system.  His dedication to ensuring young Canadians were able to celebrate their contributions to our country has established a legacy for our organization of which we are truly proud.  We offer our sympathies to his remarkable wife Sage and their family.

Be A Voice! Be Part of it!

The Forum for Young Canadians sessions for 2014 are coming up quickly!  It's a chance for young leaders from across Canada to Be a Voice!

Participants gather in Ottawa to learn about government processes, meet decision-makers like MPs and Senators and discuss important issues with other young leaders from across the country.

During each session, participants have the chance to go behind the shiny lights of Parliament to understand how policy and political decisions get made at the federal level by meeting the people who make and influence decisions.  They meet with MPs, Senators, senior Public Servants, business leaders and media to find out how it all works.

As they gain a better understanding of the system, they get to put it into practice by running as candidates in an election, tackling tough issues in a Cabinet meeting simulation and delving into contentious issues by offering solutions and ideas to specific fields such as the environment, energy and the economy.

On top of all this, participants get to learn from each other as they explore a bit of Ottawa, celebrate their successes as local leaders and encourage each other for the future.

Find out what young leaders are saying about Forum on social media and take a look at our blog www.forum4yc.wordpress.com where we encourage discussion on political issues!

Harper Government Invests in Canada’s Youth: Forum for Young Canadians

OTTAWA, April 23, 2012 - Young people will have the opportunity to come to Ottawa and learn more about how our parliamentary system works, thanks to an effective, affordable investment from the Government of Canada. The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced stable, multiyear funding for Forum for Young Canadians.

Forum for Young Canadians, now in its 37th year, is an annual series of one-week sessions held in the fall and spring. Each year, a total of 315 young Canadians aged 15 to 19 come to Parliament Hill to experience first-hand how the Government of Canada works.

Canadian Heritage is investing more than $80 million each year in youth programming to allow more than 100,000 youth across Canada to learn about their country.

“Forum for Young Canadians is making government interesting and relevant to young people by recreating for them how it works in our nation’s capital,” said Minister Moore. “Our Government is pleased to invest in this effective, affordable program, which helps the future leaders of our country. Providing experiences like these to young people helps strengthen our great nation.”

“Support from the government is a critical element of our success as we build on Forum’s programs to educate and engage young Canadians from coast to coast to coast in our democratic process. We are proud to see our partnerships with the public and private sector continue to grow for the benefit of the students who participate in our unique national program,” said Cate McCready, Chair of the Foundation for the Study of Processes of Government in Canada, which supports Forum. “We thank the Government of Canada for its continuing investment in our program.”

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $1,155,000 over three years through the Exchanges Canada program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This initiative helps Canadian youth connect with one another, experience the diversity of Canada’s communities, languages, and cultures, and get involved in the future of the country.
